Don’t just chase the BQ. Build the athlete who can run it.
1:1 coaching for runners chasing a Boston qualifier. Strength, running, fueling and mindset in one plan built around your work, family and life.
Long before Hopkinton. Long before the turn onto Boylston. There’s work nobody sees:
A body that handles the miles and holds its form in the last 10K.
Smart training and steady progress. Every run has a purpose.
Fuel your long runs in training, so race-day fueling is something you’ve already done.
Confidence you’ve earned. A plan for the hard miles. Trust when it counts.
A BQ gets you an application, not a spot. The last four years, runners needed to beat their standard by 4:34 to 6:51 to get in. We set your goal time with a buffer, so your BQ holds up.

I’m Joe Beckerley, head coach at Fuel The Finish in Bend, Oregon. I qualified for Boston at the 2025 Eugene Marathon, running 3:05:56 at 48. Then I ran Boston in April 2026.
I know the early alarms, the doubts in the middle of a build and the pressure of watching the clock late in the race.
I’ve coached endurance athletes for more than 14 years: marathon PRs, Boston qualifiers, Ironman and ultra finishes. My job is to help you see the big picture, make good calls each week and show up on race day ready.
And once you qualify, we get you ready for Boston itself. I’d be honored to help you chase it.
Real reviews from athletes I coach, word for word. “…” marks where a long review was shortened.
“At age 63, Coach Joe helped me qualify again, something I honestly wasn’t sure I could still do. Then amazingly I ran even faster, a faster time in Boston than I had in my qualifying race. … It also helps tremendously to have a partner throughout the process, someone who understands the goal, keeps you accountable and believes in you when the training gets difficult.”
“Even though we live on opposite coasts, Coach Joe’s coaching app and regular communication made the process seamless. … Coach Joe doesn’t just get you to the starting line—he gets you there ready to perform.”
“…when life happens and the unexpected occurs, Coach Joe quickly adjusts your plan so you stay on track and can focus on what is most important.”
“I asked for a training plan that addressed 3 aspects of my life: Family, Work, and Performance. He delivered.”
“Coach Joe has got me fit, strong and motivated to take my workouts to the next level and all without injury.”
Personal guidance built around your fitness, your life and the BQ you’re chasing.
A plan tells you what was supposed to happen. A coach helps you decide what should happen now.
Running, strength, fueling and mindset in one plan, with Coach Joe in your corner every week.

It depends on where you’re starting. Most runners need a solid base, then a focused 16 to 20 week marathon build. On our call, we’ll look at your recent races and set an honest timeline.
Maybe not. Boston has a cutoff. The last four years, runners needed to beat their standard by 4:34 to 6:51 to get in. We set your goal time with a buffer, so your BQ holds up.
The one that gives you the best shot and fits your life. We look at the course, weather, timing and travel. Race selection is part of your coaching.
No. Boston gives you more time in each older age group. Scott M. qualified again at 63, then ran faster at Boston.
Yes. Boston is its own course. We train for the early downhills, the Newton hills from mile 16 to 21 and the last miles to Boylston.
Yes. My athletes train all over the country. Your plan, feedback and check-ins all happen online.
A plan gives you workouts. It can’t see your work trip, your bad night of sleep or your sore calf. I can. Each week I look at how you responded and adjust what comes next.
Tell me about your running, your schedule and your Boston goal. I read every application myself. If it looks like a fit, we’ll set up a free call to talk it through.
