You’re Not Supposed to Do This Alone

March 06, 20262 min read

Back when I worked a corporate job as a Creative Director, I helped grow a start-up into a multi-million dollar company.

I’d love to tell you I did it all myself… but that’s not true.

My strength wasn’t doing everything. My strength was building the right team and keeping the team focused. I needed experts in design, photography, lighting, styling, and more.

We won because we weren’t trying to be great at everything. We built a team.

Then I had a health scare.

At the time, I was a busy professional prioritizing work over health. And I realized something quickly:

If I wanted to get healthy again, I needed to treat my health like I treated business.

I needed a team.

Not a magic pill. Not a quick fix. Not a “hope this works” plan.

A team… and a long-game mindset.

Funny enough, that’s part of what led me to fall in love with endurance sports. The long game. The life game.

Here’s what I’ve noticed over the years:

The people who build a team around their health are often the same people who succeed in business.

They understand they can’t do it all alone.

They build teams around family, business, and health.

So what does a “health and performance team” look like?

First, your team already includes your foundation: your family and friends.

From there, depending on your goals, your team might include:

  • A coach (training structure, accountability, and expert guidance)

  • A gym community or fitness classes (consistency and support)

  • A run shop or bike shop (equipment and problem-solving)

  • A massage therapist or bodywork specialist (recovery)

  • A physical therapist (injury prevention and troubleshooting)

  • A bike fitter (efficiency and comfort)

  • Your primary care doctor (long-term health and monitoring)

You don’t use every team member every week. But knowing they’re there gives you confidence. And when something feels off—pain, fatigue, low motivation, you have support instead of guessing.

The bigger the goal, the more valuable the team.

Right now, everyone on my team knows I’m training for the Boston Marathon, and I’m clear on how each person can help me stay healthy, on track with performance and keep moving forward.

This is one of the roles I play for the athletes I coach helping them build structure, stay accountable, and navigate the long game of performance and health.

If you want help building your long-game plan—strength, endurance, nutrition, and mindset, message and tell me what you’re working toward this year.
